2025 Executive Director’s Letter

In 2025, our book bank community showed up in extraordinary ways. More than 400 volunteers—students, retirees, corporate teams, families, and neighbors—gave their time, energy, and heart to sorting, counting, packing, and distributing books.

Because of your support and our dedicated volunteers, we proudly distributed over 118,780 books throughout underserved schools, community centers, early childhood programs, and family resource hubs. Each book placed in a child’s hands represents possibility: a new word learned, a spark of imagination, a moment of connection with a caregiver or teacher. These books are more than pages—they are pathways to literacy, confidence, and opportunity.

The impact of increased book access in our region is clear and now we have the research to prove it! Thank you to Michigan State University graduate research program who worked with MSB for three months on collecting, analyzing and then presenting us with the data.

None of this would be possible without you—our donors, volunteers, partners, and champions. Your belief in our work fuels every milestone we reach.

As we enter a new year, we remain committed to expanding book access even further. With your continued support, we can grow our programming, reach new neighborhoods, and ensure that every child in Metro Detroit has books of their own.

Thank you for standing with us, for lifting our work, and for helping children discover the joy and power of reading.

With gratitude,
Maria Dismondy
