Supporting schools in Southeast Michigan

The MSB Free Book Fair

We provide free book fairs to schools where every child self-selects at least five books and a book tote bag to create their own home library!

Summer Reading Programs

We supply free books to schools to send home with children for summer reading. Children self select their books to increase their interest in reading!

At Home Library Program

Making Spirits Bright's At Home Library Program is enabling children to create and grow their home libraries.

We provide books directly to schools for students to take home from their literacy events.

And as an early intervention strategy, we collaborate with community centers to put on story time events. These events focus on toddler and preschool aged children. While attending these events children create mini libraries and self select books to fill them. We model important literacy skills during these events for both parents and children.

Special Education Classrooms

We provide books to accessible education teachers that need specialized books to teach specific themes in their curriculum.

Teachers and Media Specialists

We host an Open House for teachers and media specialists to come into our warehouse to fill a box of books for their classroom. These events happen in May and September. Follow us on social media for specific dates. Teachers leave with an average of 50 books each from these events.

          Goal #2

Develop strategic partnerships with key community organizations in order to ensure maximum reach and efficacy.

          Goal #3

Continue to expand programs and partnerships with schools to ensure that we are reaching our target market.

          Goal #4

Develop and implement communications, marketing and evaluation efforts to expand awareness and track MSB’s community impact.

          Building Administrative & Operations Support

          Goal #1

Develop policies and procedures to ensure the efficient operations of the staff, board and overall organization.

          Goal #2

Establish a budget and financial management system that allows MSB’s board and staff to be proactive in ensuring the short- and long-term success of the organization.

          Securing Funding & Financial Resources

          Goal #1

Focus fundraising efforts on key constituencies that we believe are likely to support MSB, most notably: educators; arts supporters; foundations active in the areas of education, youth development, etc; and individuals who have connections to the Founder and/or board members.
